The Two Popes

In the light of the passing of Pope John Paul, the election of Pope Benedict and now the announcement of WYD Sydney 2008, Carnivale Christi and The Catholic Weekly are releasing a series of special commemorative prints of "The Two Popes: Remembering John Paul, Awaiting Benedict" by internationally acclaimed artist Dr Charles Billich. John Paul and St Mary's is the first in this two part series with the second commemorative, Benedict XVI being available for Christmas 2006, pending demand.

Using the finest of inks, this print has been created through a hand layered process applied to Royal Saxony quality archival paper ensuring the most superior finish and colour. We trust it will prove a worthy addition to your home or office and will serve as a beautiful lasting memory of Pope John Paul II.

Dr Charles Billich has contributed significantly to the Croatian Community, to Australian society and to the Church both in Australia and Europe over the past 40 years. His appointments include being "Sport Artist of The Year 2000", official artist at the Hall of Congress in Washington DC in 1998, and official artist to the Australian Olympic Team at the Games of the XXVI Olympiad.

Dr Billich met Pope John Paul II in Sydney in 1995 when he presented to him his portrait of the Blessed Mary MacKillop specially commissioned for the beatification. This work now hangs in the Vatican. Earlier this year Dr Billich was asked to sketch two portraits for Carnivale Christi, one of John Paul II and the other of Benedict XVI. A copy of this second sketch was later presented to Pope Benedict in June of this year.
